Annual General Meeting and Celebration Evening
The KZN CTC’s annual AGM and celebration evening was held on the evening of the 3rd December 2009, at Makaranga Garden Lodge in Kloof. The evening started off with some formalities with Dr. Justin Barnes welcoming delegates and providing an industry update. This was followed by the chairman of the KZN CTC, Mike Wood, whose address covered some of the activities that took place in 2009.
1) The KZN CTC has been supporting the formal C&T sector for 4.5 years
2) The KZN CTC has 30 paying members from across the spectrum of the value chain, from machine suppliers to retailers. Excluding retailers this covers over 11 000 employees, a large chunk of the formal sector
3) The KZN CTC reach’s over 350 associate business members through our database, each of whom receives newsletters
4) During the past financial year the Cluster has directly supported 1255 workers/staff through programmes
5) Total revenue for the extended financial year (August 2008-December 2009) is R1.91m and expenditure is expected to be equal to this
6) During the past year the Cluster has seen both jobs losses and job creation amongst its members, although there has been a net loss overall which remains a concern
7) In 2010, the Cluster will be participating in the IDC CTCIP Grant programme, and is one of only two Cluster applications with the IDC at this particular point. The expanded programme will deliver shop floor support to participating members and will undoubtedly add value to them
8) The KZN CTC, along with the CCTC, continues to play a vital role in informing government policy and planning as it is the only comprehensive operational database in the country
9) The chairman’s address was followed by Rob Stewart, who went through the financials of the Cluster. Financial reports, the re-appointment of BDO and the re-appointment of B&M Analysts were accepted by the attending Cluster members
Councillor Rabi Gobind from eThekwini Municipality then officiated over the handing out of awards and certificates to members. The first award was given to Dyefin Textiles for “Greatest Positive Change towards World Class Manufacturing”. Certificates were then handed out to the WCM Training Programme delegates. Individual winners of the 2009 WCM Programme were Mario Marrier and Dean Button of Dyefin Textiles. Second place went to the two delegates Johan Liebenberg and Kelvin Chetty from Durban Overall.
